Preschool Programs


GSRP Preschool:  Great Start Readiness Preschool (GSRP) is the FREE state funded preschool program for four-year-old children who meet the criteria.  GSRP preschool is designed to meet needs based on results compiled from preschool screening, parent interview, and student observation.

The program is designed to promote growth in the areas of language, cognitive, fine and gross motor, self-help skills and social/emotional development.  A unique feature of the program is personalized home visits and group parent meetings.

COST:  Free to 4 year olds who are eligible

ELIGIBILITY:  Any resident who will turn four on or before September 1, 2016 who meets the state eligibility guidelines.  Enrollment is limited to the children determined to be most in need.

DAYS/TIMES:  Monday through Thursday, 8:15 – 11:15 a.m. or 12 noon – 3:00 p.m.

ECSE Preschool (Early Childhood Special Education)

This program is designed to meet the needs of a special group of three to five year olds residing in our district.  It provides a variety of developmentally appropriate activities to meet each child’s individual needs.  In addition, support services are provided by both the Fitzgerald and MISD ancillary, and other related service staff.  Transportation is provided.  Students meet Monday – Friday from 8:15 – 11:23 am  or from 12:18 am – 3:26 pm.

The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is a research based, comprehensive curriculum.  It has a organized structure and focuses on interest areas with a clear organizational structure and a particular focus on interest areas. Interest areas include Blocks, Dramatic play, Toys and games, Art, Library, Discovery, Sand and water, Music and movement, Cooking, Computers, and Outdoors. The 10 indoor interest areas plus the outdoor space offer multiple opportunities for children to explore, discover, and learn. Interest areas provide a setting for children to learn academic content and apply skills.

Its framework has five components- How Children Develop and Learn, The Learning Environment, What Children Learn, The Teacher’s Role and The Family’s Role.  The curriculum also has an on-line assessment which teachers complete three times a year and share results with parents.

Fitzgerald offers School Age Care (SAC) before and after school for K-5th grade students who attend Mound Park  and Westview.  It is housed at Westview Elementary School.
