Re-Opening Schofield/Elementary Reconfiguration

Our Fitzgerald Public Schools family is growing!  To accommodate increased enrollment in our elementary grades, we have reopened Schofield Elementary and have implemented a grade realignment plan for our elementary schools.

The former Schofield Elementary is now named the Schofield Early Childhood Center and will house a new Head Start program, our preschool programs and all kindergartners.  Westview Lower Elementary School will house grades one through three.  Mound Park Upper Elementary will house grades four and five.

The size of our district and the short distances between our three elementary buildings make us the ideal district to implement this grade configuration. Research also shows aligning elementary schools by grade supports student achievement and builds a strong, positive school culture.  In addition, it allows us to focus every aspect of instruction, technology and enrichment on a specific developmental stage.  This ensures every student continues to learn, grow and succeed in a safe and nurturing environment.

We are grateful for community, board and staff support of reopening Schofield and the realignment of our elementary schools.  If you have any questions, please contact Barbara VanSweden at (586) 757-1750 or by email at barvan@myfitz.net.
