On Friday, February 11, 2011, the Fitzgerald Public Schools Community Relations Committee sponsored a Valentine Breakfast for Dinner Event for our community senior citizens.  Nearly one hundred people attended.  They enjoyed watching, catching, and eating flying pancakes! The breakfast was prepared for our seniors by Chris Cakes of Michigan.  The group also enjoyed presentations from FPS Superintendent Barbara VanSweden; State Representative Lesia Liss; Senator Steven Beida; Keith Nelson, Deputy District Director from the Office of Representative Sander Levin; Mayor James Fouts from the City of Warren; Warren Parks & Recreation Director Henry Bowman; and Warren Miller Librarian Cindy Knecht.

On Thursday, March 11, the Fitzgerald Public Schools – Community Relations Committee sponsored a St. Patrick’s Day Brunch for the Fitzgerald senior citizens. There were nearly one hundred in attendance with speakers such as James Jackson, Economic Recovery Coordinator from Sander Levin’s Office, Mary Ann Stockwell, RN from the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital and Kathy Peet, Public Health Nutritionist from the Macomb County Health Department.  The gathering was hosted by Superintendent Barbara VanSweden. Good food, good conversation and good information along with a raffle were shared by all. A 2010 Bond presentation was made by Citizens Committee Co-Chair, Mrs. Mary McKinney, as well as from Superintendent VanSweden.  For more information regarding future senior citizens’ activities, call 586.757.1750.

On Friday, October 8, the Fitzgerald Public Schools Board of Education – Community Relations Committee sponsored a Fall Senior Citizen Dinner. There were nearly one hundred in attendance with speakers such as Lesia Liss, State Representative 28th District; James V. Jackson, Economic Recovery Coordinator from Congressman Sander Levin’s Office; and Mary Ann Stockwell, RN from the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.  Guests were greeted by Superintendent Barbara VanSweden. The seniors enjoyed music from the FHS Marching Band. Good food and great conversation, along with some very valuable safety tips were shared.  To wrap up the evening’s event, a DVD of past senior citizens’ events was shown. This was a wonderful finish to an already perfect evening!
