Teacher Spotlight – Catherine Davis

Catherine Davis, one of our 2022 Auschwitz Legacy Fellows, is a high school social studies teacher from Shelby Township, Michigan. She currently teaches US and world history and economics at Fitzgerald High School in Warren, MI, where she is also a co-sponsor for freshman student government. Catherine previously taught high school alternative education for 10 years. She received her BA in history and speech communications from Hillsdale College, a secondary teaching certification from Saginaw Valley State University, and a MA in educational leadership from Marygrove College. Catherine is married with 4 kids under age 5; and in her spare time, she loves to read, travel to new places, bake for her fellow staff members, and spend time with her family.

When asked why she applied for the Auschwitz Legacy Fellowship, Catherine said that she wanted “to bring history alive” for her students, as “there’s no better way than to see it for myself.” She looks forward to sharing her experiences in her classroom to “give a sense of realness of the place, which will in turn allow me to better teach about the past.”

Catherine learned about the Auschwitz Legacy Fellowship thanks to ABMF’s partnership with the Zekelman Holocaust Center.
